After eliminating arch rival Williamston in the semi-finals, the Cougars soccer team set their sights on their second District Championship in three years. The team was hoping to avoid a third straight shootout in their Saturday match versus Leslie High School and they did not disappoint.
Jack Gonzalez took a early pass from Grant Cotter and put the Cougars on the board quickly. A few minutes later, he took the feed from Alec Gonzalez, juked his way through two Blackhawk defenders and lasered a shot past the keeper for his 2nd goal in the first 12 minutes. The rout was on as Leslie had trouble dealing with the possession game of Lansing Catholic. Remy Collard laid a beautiful pass out in front of Chuck Plaehn who was able to beat the goalie for the 3-0 lead. Collard was not done, as he beat a few Blackhawk defenders down the left side and placed a perfect cross over to Connor Kluemper for the nice tap-in to make it 4-0.
The second half started much the same way. Mike Hollis was able to feed a long cross from his right back spot to Jack Gonzalez, who headed a laser off the bottom of the cross bar for his hat-trick. Matthew Plaehn rounded out the scoring with a nice finish off the Remy Collard corner to make it 6-0. It was an exciting match, as every player on the roster was able to contribute to the win. The Lansing Catholic Boys Soccer Team wins District Championship!
Come cheer on the your amazing Cougar soccer team Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 PM at Williamston as they take on a tough Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard squad in the Regional Semi-Finals.
