For the second time in three years the girls XC team has won the Greater Lansing Championship. The meet involves over 40 area schools and is in its 29th year.
The girls XC team, currently ranked #1 in Division 3 in the state, posted a convincing win scoring 60 points, 49 points better than 2nd place St. Johns. The team was led by Olivia Theis who won the meet in a meet record time of 17:36 breaking the old meet record of 17:57. T Lauren Cleary placed second overall with a time of 18:12 and Jaden Theis finished fourth running 18:34. It marked the first time in meet history that runners from the same school had finished 1-2 and only the second time that a school had 3 of the top 4 finishers. Grace Frost was the fourth finisher for the girls’ team in 22nd place also making the medal stand. Rachel Reid finished in 32nd place, Elaina Phelps ran a personal best time to finish in 53rd and Sophia Weitzel finished in the 129th spot.
The boys team came home in second place behind Corunna who is ranked #3 in Division 2 in the state. The Cougars, ranked #2 in Division 3, ran a strong race finishing ahead of third place Okemos. The boys were led by Will Peters who finished 14th overall and 1st on the team with a personal best time of 16:29. Freshman Eli Meder finished 2nd on the team, 19th overall also with a personal best time of 16:41. Eric Warriner came in 20th and Ethan Markey 21st overall placing the first four runners on the top-30 medal stand. Sammy Migaldi rounded out the top-5 finishing in 36th place, Ryan Schroeder finished 43rd and Aaron Kazmierski 61st with a personal best time of 17:25.
Both teams are in first place in the CAAC White and look to wrap up their respective league titles Saturday, October 22 at Williamston.
