The Bath/LCHS wrestling team will try to even up their record this week as they host a double-dual on Wednesday, January 20th at Bath High School. The 8-10 Fighting “Cougar” Bees will take on CMAC foes Laingsburg and Montabella. This is the final home meet of the season so be sure to come out and show your support. Head coach Chuck Root and assistant Dalton Hilliker are hoping to notch a couple wins and reach the .500 mark as they enter the last third of their season.
So far the season has had it’s share of ups and downs. With participation down from last year Coach Root has routinely forfeited 3-4 weight classes which hasn’t helped their team record, but overall the team is improving daily and competing at a high level against tough competition. This season has taken them to new tournaments at Belding and Swartz Creek along with their regular invitationals at Owosso and Durand. CMAC competition has been good, as usual, with the team making trips to both Dansville and Carson City-Crystal who are perennial league favorites.
The team is led by a dedicated group of seniors – Elliott Lipe (Bath, 17-9 record, 130 lbs), John Perry (LCHS, 6-14, 140), Marshall Lipe (Bath, 14-12, 152) and Robert Micheaux (Bath, 7-18, 160). Other notable wrestlers include juniors Eli Whitney (LCHS, 13-10, 189) and Drew Goeddeke (LCHS, 13-12, 215), sophomore Jack Skidmore (Bath, 20-7, 112) and freshman Mikey McKerr (LCHS, 10-15, 285).
The season rounds out with a trip to the Leslie tournament, a quad meet with Fowerlville/Durand/Williamston and the CMAC league tournament at Laingsburg. Team districts will follow at Waverly High School vs. Waverly/Haslett/Eastern and individual districts are TBD. Please check the LCHS sports calendar for the dates and times of these events.
