Multiple Teams · Solid Night for Cougar Volleyball

Lansing Catholic had a strong win in 3 straight sets against the Portland Raider volleyball team, ending 25-14, 25-19, and 25-18. The Cougars began with an aggressive first set, and were fast to make their first strikes offensively. In the second and third set Portland had moments of spark and started to gain some momentum, but the Cougars stepped up their defense that prevailed in a few long rallies.

Despite a quick match, the Cougars put up some notable stats on the match. Liz Wojtyisak led with 9 kills, and Maddie Maloney had 6. Becka Poljan had 3 blocks on the night. Mary Beth Flores had an impressive 26 digs, 16 of which came from the 2nd set. Aces were not remiss for the Cougars with Olivia Poupard and Cassidy Johnson having 2 each.

The Cougars volleyball team stands at 2-0 in conference matches and will play Fowlerville on Monday at Fowlerville HS. Then, on Wednesday Sept 23, Lansing Catholic will host a “Dig Pink” game at home vs Ionia. This annual event is intended on raising awareness on Breast Cancer and the students run various fundraising events for donation to the Sparrow Hospital cancer ward.
