The varsity competitive cheer team competed at the Grand Ledge Invitational on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Four teams competed in Division 3 with nine teams total in all divisions. Going first to start the competition, the Cougars set the bar high with a solid first round scoring almost a season best, 229.3, leading second place Portland by 7.6 points and third place Pennfield by 45 points. The Cougars continued to roll in the second round with stronger timed jumps and gymnastics skills, posting their season high score, 209.74 increasing the lead ahead of Portland by 16 points. A week full of changes in round 3 to increase difficulty and work on weak points paid off as the Cougars closed the meet with a school record breaking 305.2 and a phenomenal third round filled with solid stunts, clean skills and an exciting performance. The Cougars finished with a season best 734.24 to win Division 3 including a sweep of the entire meet, defeating Division 1 champion Grand Ledge and Division 2 champion, Mason. The next meet for the Cougars is on Wednesday, January 28 at Fowlerville High School for the second CAAC league meet. Come out and join the crowd and we cheer for blue!
